For a referral, a change of clinic, an emergency, or when an owner asks for the notes. The export uses FHIR, the record format hospitals use.

What to ask for

An export should include all four.

The clinical record
Consultations, prescriptions, vaccinations, lab results, procedures, allergies, and vitals, each with a date.

A PDF summary
A document any vet can open without special software.

Attachments
X-rays, lab reports, photos, and uploaded documents included with the record.

A contents list
A list of what is in the export, so nothing is missing.
